STAR

STAR: Service for Trauma, Addiction and Recovery

Liber8’s Service for Trauma, Addiction and Recovery (STAR) provides one-to-one counselling for anyone who has experienced addiction and trauma in their life, whether from a single event or repeated incidences of trauma. STAR is open to individuals, their family members and loved ones. Trauma can have a multitude of causes – complex grief, addiction, emotional or physical abuse, illness or dissociative disorders, among many others. These events can have a profound impact on your psychological and emotional wellbeing and can affect everyone differently.

You will work with one of our trauma-focused cognitive behavioural specialists and receive specialist counselling tailored to you and your individual experience. Your counsellor will meet with you weekly with each session lasting 50 minutes.

Trauma does not mean the same to everyone. Just as trauma affects us all differently, there is not a one-size-fits-all type of trauma therapy. Our skilled therapists are trained in proven and evidence-based methods of trauma treatment, whether for acute or repeated incidences of trauma, including Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Traumatic experiences can force us to develop coping mechanisms, such as self-harm or drug use, as a way of regulating emotions that feel too difficult to tolerate. However, once we begin to process the trauma, we can learn how to become less reliant on these mechanisms. Our trained counsellors have the specialist skills and capacity to help you process the trauma that impacts on your daily life, and help you move forward in your life.

Our Service for Trauma, Addiction and Recovery allows you to have the choice and access to the best therapeutic interventions available for your needs.
