Introducing The Beacons

The Beacons are 4 Recovery Hubs that cover each of the South Lanarkshire localities. You’ll find a Beacon in Blantyre, Cambuslang and Lanark, with one soon opening in East Kilbride (keep your eyes peeled for details!).

The purpose of The Beacons is to increase visibility of treatment and recovery from substance use and alcohol misuse in local communities throughout South Lanarkshire. They are welcoming healing environments where people with lived experience can come together to help and support each other. At The Beacons, we believe that recovery is possible for anyone.

Somewhere To Feel Welcome

Each experience is Person Centred, meaning that you decide what you want to get from your time at The Beacons – whether you’re looking to share experiences in a Recovery Group, receive family support, or meet new people at a social event or walking group. There are also regular training events, group workshops and social activities – there is something for everyone.

If you're not sure what support would be best for you, we can offer a safe space for you to have a chat through your needs with one of our volunteers or a member of our specialist staff team (which include Recovery Co-ordinators, Link Workers, Police Scotland Link Officers, Family Services and NHS Psychologists).

Feel free to drop by and be a part of your local recovery community. Some people like come along to participate in an activity or event, others simply enjoy the freedom to socialise or read a book in good company and safe surroundings. There is no need to book – please feel free to come along at any time during opening hours.

You can keep updated about what's on each week at your local Beacon on the website, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

Lived Experience

The Beacons show our local communities a different side to recovery - a side which sees people helping people, rebuilding lives afresh with new friends, stronger family links, more opportunities for self-development and better prospects.

The Beacons invest in people with lived experience. All of our volunteers have lived experience and are passionate about helping others in their recovery journey.

"Having a safe place to go where I could get access to all the support I could ever need and getting involved in training and creative activities is helping me build my confidence and shattered self-esteem, I feel more hopeful about the future. Here, at The Beacons, I feel like I belong and my opinions are valued. The more knowledge and skills I have acquired, the stronger I feel. I've met some amazingly strong positive people.

Today I have almost a decade free from my addiction. It wasn't easy, but nothing worth having ever is! My aim now is to give someone else hope! Hope that they too can recover from addiction.  Recovery Is Possible! You are not alone! There are many people here who will support you through your recovery journeys. Reach out - all it takes is that first step... then another... it's never too late!"

- Beacons Volunteer

Our volunteers are a compassionate and empathetic first point of contact for people in recovery attending The Beacons. Volunteering gives you the chance to meet new people, learn new skills and think about your own personal development. Many of our volunteers have used their experience at The Beacons to find new jobs or opportunities in further education.

If you'd like to be volunteer at your local Beacon, you can contact us at admin@thebeacons.org.uk or call 01698 755926. We look forward to meeting you!
