In The Know

In The Know is a program aimed at Primary 7 and S1 pupils across Blantyre and Hamilton.

This Early Intervention program uses age appropriate materials with regards to alcohol/substance misuse and related issues. It seeks to develop children’s awareness and skills whilst promoting life choices.

The 'In The Know' project is a 6 week program that has been developed by a qualified primary teacher. Each session last for an hour and the class teacher does not need to be present during this time. The project is aimed at the Primary 7 pupils and the pupils are then revisited in First Year to evaluate their learning. It links with A Curriculum for Excellence and covers the experience and outcomes for Health and Wellbeing with particular reference to the Substance and Misuse strand. In The Know program supports learning across the curriculum and incorporates a variety of subjects which includes Social Studies, Sciences, Expressive Arts, Numeracy and Literacy.

The 6 week program has been designed to be interactive and use co- operative learning in the activities set. There are specific learning outcomes for each lesson which will be evaluated by the Early Intervention Officer. The project makes use of age appropriate materials that have been specially designed to enhance the sessions. There are a variety of teaching techniques which are used through the sessions – its uses group work, class discussions, co-operative group work, role play, creative experiences and research.
